Airly Gap is the main entrance by road to Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area.
Airly Gap lies in a saddle between Mount Airly and Genowlan Mountain in the Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area. The gap forms a natural access point to the pagoda landscapes that line the pleateau's escarpments. Fire trails and old mining routes provide access to many of the area’s most interesting features including the tramway relics near Airly Village and the pagoda outcrops along Gap Creek.
The Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area protects the ruggedly beautiful pagodas & canyons, the endangered plants & animals & the shale mining relics.
A hundred years ago Airly Gap was part of Airly Village, a small community of shale miners & their families.
Now it is a peaceful glen with stunning views, beautiful plants & abundant birdlife.
Airly Gap is a great place to camp with the family. It is also the start of many bush walking adventures.
The pagoda formations above Airly Gap can be explored on walks to Airly Turret or the Gap Creek Pagodas. The Torbane Balcony is a 700 metre long ledge that meanders through the Great Wall on the western side of Mt Airly, while The Towers is to the north. Airly Frustum is an amazing cave eroded into the pagodas. Off track day walks like these require navigation skills.
With so much to offer Airly Gap is well worth a visit.
