Heath Monitors are large, strong lizards with long necks & long muscular tails. They have well developed legs with 5 toes with large claws. They can grow to about 1.3 metres long.
These lizards are usually found in heath and forests on sandstone environments. Heath Monitors shelter in hollow logs and rock crevices and forage on the ground. Heath Monitors nest in termite mounds. They can climb trees.
Heath monitors can be distinguished from Lace Monitors by the spots on the legs and the barring on the tail. They also have a pale edged dark stripe running back from their eye.
