When the Wolgan Valley Railway was built in 1907 to transport Shale Oil from the refinery at Newnes, much of the landscape it crossed was changed forever.
Large cuttings & tunnels were dug & large earth viaducts built to maintain even grades for the trains.
This cavern is almost all that remains, after the railway was built, of a small canyon made by Tunnel Creek.
