The Pondage is a large basin surrounded by pagodas near Pt Cameron.
During heavy rain, water pools in the basin until it can drain away through The Pondage Canyon.
Large thickets of tea-tree and other shrubs form thickets in the sandy floor of The Pondage.
The thickets, which are slightly higher than the water-worn pathways through the basin, make sheltered sites for tents.
When it is raining heavily an overhang at the entrance to the canyon is a good alternative.
