Tessellated Pavement

The Tessellated Pavement is an inter-tidal rock platform divided into regular shapes or tiles when it cracked by movements in the Earth's crust.

There are 2 types of tessellations at this site - pans and loaves.

Both forms are caused by an interaction between salt in the seawater and the rock tiles or the joints between the tiles.
