The Ruined Castle is a remnant of the peninsular that once connected Castle Head and Mt Solitary. It's aptly named, with the rocks projecting through the trees resembling some ancient, mythical castle.
The Ruined Castle is a popular destination for bush walkers who either walk from the top of Narrow Neck Plateau via the Golden Stairs or walk around the base of the cliffs from Katoomba. The track roughly follows the route of the horse drawn railway that once carried oil shale from the mines located near the Ruined Castle.
There are some wonderful views from the Ruined Castle, to the south and to the north.
There is no safe, reliable source of water - make sure you carry your own.
