Gap Creek is an ephemeral stream that starts in the gorges on th eastern slopes of Mt Airly, just west of Airly Gap.
It flows roughly south-east for 800m before turning north-north east for 4k to join with Genowlan Creek, some 2k north of Pt Hatteras.
It really has to rain heavily for Gap Creek to flow. I've been there in heavy rain, with waterfalls cascading off the pagodas and Gap Creek has been totally dry.
I've also seen the vegetation pushed flat by the flow of water in a deluge. Don't camp in the creek bottom.
Behind Airly Gap, Gap Creek is in a narrow gorge surrounded by pagodas. The valley, still surrounded by cliffs opens out a bit as the creek flows through Rock Bottom before dropping quickly into the Capertee Valley below.
