Mountain Dragon (Rankinia diemensis)

The Mountain Dragon is a small lizard with a short tail and short limbs.

These lizards live in heath and dry sclerophyll forests in the Great Dividing Range and coastal ranges. They are usually found in forest clearings, on rock and stones or fallen timber.

Mountain Dragons are not as fast as other dragons and don't often run when approached. They often seem quite tame. My camera chirps when it focusses and on several occasions I have seen these lizards approach, apparently to investigate the source of the noise.
